As a part of the celebration days of Shipka between the 15th and 18th August, we hosted a soap workshop in the Chirpanlieva House on the 16th August 2018.
Maria Slavova and Elitza Maksimova, who are professionals in the soapmaking process and sell their handmade natural soaps but also other cosmetics, came to show and explain the production of soap to the interested viewers. The event took place in the new renovated outdoor area of the museum that was just completed in the week before. Moreover, Galia Gocheva offered a wool workshop where the guests were able to try the handcraft of felting, which was especially interesting for the children.
For the soap making, our two instructors first presented the used ingredients to the audience, which are 100% natural and organic. Then they used the hot process to prepare the soap, which gets it ready faster than the cold process. This process was a really exciting experience for the adults that gained further knowledge, as well as it was pretty fascinating to watch for the children. After the preparation, the soap has to bo
ile for 4-5 hours. This was the time for everyone to sit together for a talk and a nice lunch that was also provided. The guests also had time to buy handmade soap and felt decoration and Galia Gocheva showed how to do felted soap, which is especially gentle to the skin and by the way, conn
ected the handcrafts of soap and felting.
After enjoying the afternoon, the prepared soap was filled in a form and dried rose blossoms and lavender were added for an especially fine smell of the soap. The finish soap was just cut into slices the next day and now it is also available at the souvenir shop of the museum.
All in all everyone had a great day with many new things to learn and nice conversations, while also the kids had much fun.
